New blood pressure cuffs for non-invasive measurement

Lübeck – The new reusable and single-patient cuffs are tailor-made to meet the requirements of medical personnel and patients: for example Dräger offers an extended range of sizes, going from infants to adults with a larger-than-average arm circumference as well as special cuffs for neonates. Marking aids and tapered ends facilitate application. The onehand connector simplifies the removal of the cuff from the connection hose. Different plug sizes – for adult and neonatal cuffs – offer better orientation while connecting. Dräger emphasized on skin-friendliness of chosen materials to avoid skin irritations.

There are nine different size indications from "XXS" to "XL" clearly printed on the outside of the Dräger blood pressure cuffs. Together with the easy to understand color symbols they facilitate a quick selection of the correct cuff. In everyday clinical practice the quick and correct application of the blood pressure cuff is essential. For that reason the artery points are marked on the inside and on the outside of the new reusable cuffs for single-patient use by Dräger. Furthermore, the carer can immediately see while applying the cuff if it is positioned around the arm optimally by means of the index lines visible on both sides and the colored range marks. The tapered cuff end and the divided hook tape provide a better adjustment of the cuff to the ergonomics of the upper arm or thigh. Another handling advantage: The newly developed design of the connector offers better orientation during connection and enables the user to disconnect the cuff with only one hand.

Avoiding skin irritations

The lock also permits easy and comfortable application of the blood pressure cuffs. To enhance the flexibility of the cuff the hook tape and the Velcro strip are separated. The hook tape does not come into contact with the patient's skin when fixating the cuff, which avoids skin irritations. For cuffs for singlepatient use no hook band is needed, as the Velcro strip directly adheres to the soft velour.

Dräger blood pressure cuffs are free of latex, silicone and PVC and comply with the ISO standard 10933 for biocompatibility. The soft and smooth material of reusable cuffs is moisture-repellent and easy to clean and disinfect.
